Peter Oundjian leads the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in a program pairing Elgar's Cello Concerto with Dvorak's Symphony No. 7. The Elgar is one of the great cello showcases, elegiac and restless by turns. The Dvorak that follows brings a darker, more turbulent side of the composer than his more famous symphonies usually show.
This one plays out at Boettcher Hall in Denver, the orchestra's home base and a good room for hearing this kind of program done properly.
