Black Sheep

The Black Sheep is one of Colorado Springs’ most iconic live music venues, a 450-capacity room that has been the heartbeat of the local music scene since opening in October 2005. Founded by owner Mike and a few partners, the venue eventually became Mike’s sole operation and has remained an independently run staple of the Pikes Peak region ever since.

The intimate standing-room-only space is known for its raw, energetic atmosphere — graffiti-covered walls, a full bar with red-stool seating, and a stage close enough to feel every note. Limited bench seating lines the sides on a first-come, first-served basis, but most of the crowd is on their feet.

Over two decades, The Black Sheep has hosted an impressive roster of artists before they were household names — Imagine Dragons, Macklemore, Twenty One Pilots, Shinedown, Daughtry, Gwar, and Mac Miller have all played this floor. The venue books rock, metal, punk, hip-hop, reggae, country, and everything in between, running 4–7 shows per week nearly year-round.

The Black Sheep has earned the Colorado Springs Independent “Best Live Music Venue” award consistently from 2005 through 2024, a testament to its place in the community.

Good to Know

  • All ages welcome unless a specific show is restricted; full bar for 21+
  • General admission, standing room only with limited side bench seating
  • Free parking along Platte Ave and surrounding side streets
  • No re-entry once shows are underway
  • ADA accessible — arrive before doors for proper setup assistance
  • No outside food or drinks, no weapons, no professional cameras without prior approval
  • Hearing protection recommended for kids under 13 (free earplugs available at the venue)

Black Sheep sits on East Platte Avenue in Colorado Springs and has been a steady spot for touring bands since 2005. It runs independently, with Mike still at the helm, and the room stays standing room only, which keeps the focus on whoever is on stage. Expect a mix of national touring acts and dance nights, from Lucero's roadhouse rock to indie dance parties like All Your Friends.

It's a no frills setup, graffiti on the walls and a full bar, built around the music rather than the extras. Worth a look if you want a show without the polish of a bigger venue.
