Sam Bush
Sam Bush helped invent newgrass, the style that took bluegrass instrumentation and opened it up to jazz, rock, and jam band improvisation. His mandolin and fiddle playing have made him a fixture at festivals for decades, and he moves as easily through a Bill Monroe tune as he does through something that sounds like it belongs on a Grateful Dead bootleg.
He has a Colorado date coming up at Denver Botanic Gardens, a venue that suits his genre-crossing sound well.
