Cowboy Junkies
Cowboy Junkies came out of Toronto in the 1980s and built a following with a hushed, slow burning sound that reworked country and blues into something quieter and more haunted. Their 1988 album The Trinity Session, recorded in a single day inside a church with one microphone, remains the record most people point to, especially their cover of "Sweet Jane." Margo Timmins' voice, low and unhurried, is the constant through everything they've made since.
They have a show coming up at Chautauqua Auditorium, a good match for a band that has always trusted space and stillness over volume.
