Brand New came up through the early 2000s emo and post-hardcore scene and became one of the genre's most argued-over, deeply loved bands, largely on the strength of records like Deja Entendu and The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. Jesse Lacey's songwriting swung between raw confession and dense, layered rock, and the band built a following that stuck with them through long gaps between albums.
